Passo Mortirolo
Passo Mortirolo ( 1800 metres above sea level)
connects the Valle
Camonica
with the Valtellina.
You can reach it from Monno, 8 kilometres away.
From Passo Mortirolo you can enjoy a wonderful view of
the Upper Valle Camonica, the Valtellina and the
majestic peaks of the Adamello, Bernina
and Ortles mountain groups.
From the Mortirolo there is a road which follows the
line the Alpine soldiers used in the First World War.It
goes along the Altopiano to
Trivigno, Pian di Gembro and Aprica.
The Passo Mortirolo is particularly well-known by
cyclists and fans of the Tour of Italy cycle race.
Passo Gavia, 2621 metres above sea level, is one of the
most
spectacular
mountain passes in Italy. It can be reached by a winding
road which starts just after Ponte di Legno
( 16 kms from Monno).
The road is very steep and is only open in the Summer.
You can use the car, but, every year cyclists and
motocyclists go up it to enjoy the magnificent views.
